Airalo is one of the best-known travel eSIM providers and helped shape the market with its marketplace model. The Singapore-based company sells data plans for more than 200 countries and regions, from a quick weekend getaway to a trip around the world. Our assessment is based on plans, features and user reviews, not on our own hands-on testing.
Plans & pricing
Airalo's biggest strength is its huge selection: for almost every destination there are several package sizes, usually between 1 and 20 GB, with validity from one week to a month. On top of that come regional plans such as Europe or Asia and the global "Discover" plan. Small packages are often among the cheapest in our comparison, which makes Airalo attractive for short trips. For large amounts of data and unlimited plans, other providers are sometimes better value. Some packages include a phone number, but most are data-only. A loyalty program gives you credit back toward future purchases.
Pay attention to when validity starts: with most Airalo packages, the clock only starts at the first connection in your destination. On longer trips, one large package can be cheaper than several small ones. Compare the price per gigabyte, which we show on every destination page.
App & setup
The app is clean and easy to navigate. On iPhone, you can install the eSIM with one tap after purchase, or use a QR code or manual entry. Airalo shows step-by-step instructions in the app and displays your remaining data. Top-ups go onto the same eSIM, so you do not need a new profile for repeat trips. Hotspot use is allowed on most packages. For general installation help, see our guides for iPhone and Android.
You can pay by credit card, PayPal or wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. Your account works on multiple devices, but each eSIM is tied to one device.
Customer support & reviews
Support is available via live chat and email and, according to user reviews, usually responds quickly. On review platforms such as Trustpilot, Airalo scores well across a very large number of reviews. Criticism occasionally concerns slow networks in certain countries, activation issues and the validity rules of individual packages. These points are typical for large eSIM providers and depend heavily on the partner network in each country.
Who is it for?
Airalo suits travelers who need light to moderate amounts of data and value a large choice of destinations. Frequent travelers benefit from the credit program and easy reuse of the eSIM. Heavy users who stream and rely on a hotspot should also look at unlimited alternatives. You will find current prices for your destination on our destination pages, for example Turkey or Thailand.
Our tip: for a one-week city trip, a mid-size Airalo package is often enough. On multi-country trips, a regional package is usually smarter than buying a separate eSIM for each country. Many Airalo packages use only one partner network per country, so in large countries it is worth checking the network listed for the plan.
Our verdict
Airalo is a solid all-rounder with a huge choice of destinations and inexpensive small packages. The app is mature and top-ups are simple. For very high data needs, some unlimited offers from other providers are cheaper.
