Guides & tips
All guidesTravel eSIM FAQ
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card built into your phone. Instead of inserting a plastic card, you download your plan's profile with a QR code. Most recent iPhones, Google Pixels and Samsung Galaxy phones support eSIM.
Does my phone work with an eSIM?
Almost all smartphones from around 2019 onward support eSIM, for example the iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows up, your phone supports eSIM.
Can I keep my regular phone number?
Yes. A travel eSIM runs alongside your normal SIM. Just set the eSIM as your mobile data line and you stay reachable on your main number for calls and texts. Keep in mind that your home carrier may charge roaming fees for those.
When should I install the eSIM?
Ideally one or two days before you leave, on a stable Wi-Fi connection. With most plans, the validity period only starts once the eSIM connects to a network at your destination.
Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming?
In most cases, by a wide margin. Many carriers charge several euros or dollars per day for roaming abroad, while travel eSIMs often give you several gigabytes for just a few euros.
