GigSky is one of the pioneers of travel data plans and was active long before the eSIM boom. The US company now sells data packages for more than 190 countries and regions and has also made a name for itself with plans for cruises and travel at sea. Our assessment is based on plans, features and user reviews, not on our own hands-on testing.
Plans & pricing
GigSky offers country, regional and global packages with different data amounts and validity periods. A special feature is its cruise packages, which can cover maritime networks on board, an area where regular roaming is extremely expensive. For standard country packages, GigSky tends to be mid- to upper-range on price. Free trial packages are occasionally offered so you can try the eSIM before buying.
With cruise packages, read the terms carefully: only certain ships and cruise lines are covered, and data at sea costs significantly more than on land. Compared with satellite roaming fees, such packages can still be a sensible safeguard.
App & setup
The app is mature and covers purchase, installation and top-ups. Setup works via QR code or directly in the app. The eSIM can be reused for future trips, and hotspot use is generally allowed.
You can pay by credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The app shows used and remaining data as well as validity. Besides phones, GigSky supports tablets and some laptops with an eSIM module.
Customer support & reviews
Support is available via chat and email. Users value the reliability and the provider's long experience. Criticism mainly concerns the price level compared with younger competitors and occasionally support response times. On review platforms, GigSky earns solid ratings.
Who is it for?
GigSky is especially interesting for cruise travelers and anyone who prefers an established provider. If you are visiting one popular vacation country and want the lowest price, other providers are often cheaper. Why roaming at sea can be so expensive is explained in eSIM vs. roaming.
For trips on land, GigSky has a solid choice of country and regional packages, for example for Europe or North America. If you are planning a cruise with shore excursions, you can combine a package for the ports with one for your time at sea. Compare current land plans with other providers on our destination pages.
Our verdict
GigSky is an experienced provider with broad coverage and rare cruise packages. The app is mature and the eSIM reusable. For standard country packages, younger competitors are often cheaper.
