MobiMatter is an eSIM marketplace based in Abu Dhabi (MOBIMATTER LTD, Abu Dhabi Global Market). Instead of selling only its own plans, MobiMatter resells data packages from many wholesalers and brands, such as IIJ, TSimTech, eSIMPlus, Sparks, Airalo and Ubigi, all in one account and one app. In our price comparison, MobiMatter is among the cheapest providers for many destinations. Our assessment is based on plans, features and user reviews, not on our own hands-on testing.
Plans & pricing
For each country, MobiMatter often lists dozens of packages from different partners: single-country plans, regional plans (for example China/Japan/Korea or Asia) and global plans. As a result, prices are often very low, for example for China, Japan or Turkey, where small and mid-sized plans are sometimes well below the well-known brands. We compare current prices directly with other providers on our destination pages.
The downside of the huge choice: validity, network and terms vary from package to package. Unlimited plans usually have a daily full-speed cap (for example 5 GB per day, then heavily throttled). Many packages are roaming eSIMs whose internet traffic breaks out in Hong Kong or Singapore. In China this usually means Google and similar services work without a VPN, but latency can be higher. A phone number is usually not included.
App & setup
You buy, install and top up in your MobiMatter account or the iOS and Android app, and the eSIM is delivered via QR code. Useful: every package shows in advance which network it uses (in Japan, for example, NTT docomo, SoftBank or KDDI). According to MobiMatter, hotspot is allowed on all packages unless stated otherwise, and most packages need no eKYC check.
According to its terms, MobiMatter accepts Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards. Prices are shown in euros once you switch the currency. MobiMatter also advertises cashback on purchases through its MobiMatter Rewards programme. Before buying, check on the package page whether that specific package can be topped up.
Customer support & reviews
According to MobiMatter, support is available 24/7 (among others via email to support@mobimatter.com and the help centre), including for packages from partner brands. On Trustpilot, MobiMatter is rated 4.3 out of 5 from around 58,000 reviews, one of the largest review bases in the eSIM market. Users mainly praise the price and easy setup. Because packages come from different partners, network quality and activation can vary from package to package.
Who is it for?
MobiMatter is a good fit for budget-conscious travelers who are happy to pick the right package themselves, especially for Asia, for example China and Japan, and for destinations such as the UAE or Egypt. If you prefer one consistent plan without per-package fine print, a classic provider with its own brand may suit you better.
Our tip: on the package page, check the validity, the network and, for unlimited plans, the daily cap. For China, packages that break out via Hong Kong are handy because blocked services are usually reachable.
Our verdict
MobiMatter is a large eSIM marketplace with a lot of packages and networks per country, and it is among the cheapest providers for many destinations. Its review base is large and positive. The price of all that choice: terms vary by partner, so check each package carefully before buying.
