Ubigi is the travel eSIM brand of Transatel, a French mobile operator that belongs to Japan's NTT Group. Unlike many pure resellers, Transatel runs its own mobile infrastructure as a virtual network operator. Our assessment is based on plans, features and user reviews, not on our own hands-on testing.
Plans & pricing
Ubigi offers data packages for more than 190 destinations, including country, regional and global plans. Besides one-time packages there are monthly subscriptions, which can pay off for frequent travelers and commuters. Ubigi supports 5G in many countries. Prices sit in the middle of the market; larger packages and subscriptions in particular are competitive. The eSIM does not include a phone number.
Thanks to its NTT background, Ubigi is especially interesting for destinations like Japan. Coverage in Europe is also good. Subscriptions renew automatically, so occasional travelers should cancel after the trip or simply choose a one-time package.
App & setup
The Ubigi app handles purchase, installation and top-ups. A special feature: Ubigi works not only on phones and tablets but also on laptops with eSIM and in some cars with built-in connectivity. Once installed, a Ubigi eSIM can be reused for many destinations; you just add new packages to the same profile. Hotspot use is allowed.
Managing several packages on one profile is well organized: you can see which package is active and when it expires. You can pay by credit card or PayPal. For laptops, Ubigi provides separate instructions, since the process varies by device and operating system.
Customer support & reviews
Support is available by email and ticket; live chat is not always offered. User reviews highlight network stability and easy reuse. Criticism mostly concerns support response times and an app that feels a little less intuitive than some competitors.
Who is it for?
Ubigi is particularly well suited to frequent and business travelers who want one eSIM for many destinations, and to anyone who wants to connect a laptop directly to mobile data. Its background in an established telecom group adds credibility. Very price-sensitive short-trip travelers can sometimes find cheaper alternatives.
Another plus for tech-savvy users: Ubigi is already built in as an option on many Windows laptops with an eSIM module. That lets you work on the go without using your phone's hotspot and draining its battery. To size your plan, see How much data do I need?
Our verdict
Ubigi scores with its carrier background, 5G in many countries, subscription options and laptop support. The eSIM is easy to reuse. Some other providers offer more convenient support and a slicker app.
