Whether you are spending a week in Paris, driving through the Loire Valley's châteaux, road-tripping in an RV along the Atlantic coast or skiing in the Alps, you will rely on your phone for maps, SNCF train tickets, museum bookings and restaurant reservations. If you are traveling from outside the EU, roaming with your home carrier is usually expensive, and campsite or hotel Wi-Fi is often slow.
A France eSIM fixes that. Purchase a plan online, install it before you leave and connect as soon as you land at Charles de Gaulle, Orly or Nice. Your regular number stays active on your physical SIM. Simhop compares the current France eSIM plans below so you can choose by data, validity and price.
Mobile networks in France
France has four mobile operators: Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile. Orange has the widest coverage in the countryside and mountains, while all four are fast in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and other major cities. Travel eSIMs usually connect to Orange, SFR or Bouygues.
4G is available almost everywhere, and 5G is widespread in big cities. Expect weaker signal in the high Alps and Pyrenees, deep in the Verdon Gorge, in some rural parts of central France and on remote stretches of Corsica's coast.
Which data plan do you need in France?
For a week in Paris with maps, messaging, the Métro and museum apps, 3 to 5 GB is typically enough. Road trips with daily navigation, or traveling by RV or campervan where campsite Wi-Fi is unreliable, call for 10 GB or more, and using your phone as a hotspot makes an unlimited plan worthwhile. See How much data do I need? for help estimating.
Visiting France along with Spain, Italy or Switzerland? A Europe eSIM covers several countries in one plan. Trips to the UK via the Channel Tunnel or ferry are also often covered, but check the country list first.

FAQ: eSIM for France
Do I need an eSIM in France?
If your home carrier is outside the EU, an eSIM is usually the cheapest way to get data in France. EU visitors can often use EU roaming, but an eSIM still helps if your allowance is small or you are staying a long time.
Which network has the best coverage in France?
Orange generally has the best coverage nationwide, especially in rural and mountain areas. In Paris and other cities, all four networks are fast and reliable.
Does a France eSIM work in Corsica?
Yes. Corsica is part of France and is covered by France eSIMs. Coverage is good in towns and along main roads but can be weaker in the mountainous interior.
Does a France eSIM work in Monaco?
Not always. Monaco is a separate country outside the EU, so many France plans do not include it. Some regional Europe plans do, so check the coverage list before your trip.
Can I use a France eSIM as a hotspot in an RV?
Most providers allow hotspot or tethering, but some restrict it. If you plan to share data with a laptop or tablet, check the plan details and pick a large or unlimited allowance.
